Music, What’s Next?

What direction will music take, where will it lead us?  I look back at the way my parents felt about the music I listened too, and wonder is that why I feel the way I feel about the music of today.  I thought I was very open minded about most things in life, but today’s music just doesn’t interest me much.

There are some musicians that produce some good music, even some great music, but it seems their careers are very short lived, maybe one or two albums, or should I say CD’s and then they vanish.  The musicians that do stick around due to what seems like cult followings seem to only produce what I would consider mediocre to bad music.  Maybe it’s me, I really love music and grew up listening to the artists of the mid 40’s through the mid 90’s, and then I started to lose interest.  I long for the varied styles of Elton John, The Beatles, Chicago, Ray Charles, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Elvis, Stevie Wonder, The Stylistics, The Eagles, Aerosmith, The Mills Brothers, Gary Puckett, John Lennon, Johnny Mathis, Queen, Glenn Miller, The Police, Nat King Cole, Tom Petty, Yes, Van Halen, etc..  I know that my taste in music covers a large spectrum of genres and styles and I could go on and on with what I consider quality music, but the bottom line is I really don’t like much of today’s music.  So what’s your point of view?
